Absurd Increase in Cement Prices - Builders demand an Explanation

Cement prices had gone up by 37% in the last few days. The rise in pricing is completely irrational, hitting construction projects.

On an Average, cement price per bag has increased by Rs. 100, despite there is no change of price in raw materials.

This abnormal rise is severely affecting the Housing and Real Estate Industry in the State.

The Builders Association of India (BAI) has stated that the hike does not have any reason, as the value of raw materials and fuel has not changed. They also demanded the Centre to create a governing authority to follow up on Cartelization by Cement manufacturers.

The prices of OPC cement have varied from Rs. 250 to Rs. 350 per bag and distribution has also stopped by Retailers from last few days. The 'Builders' Association has demanded an explanation as Construction is one of the most important activity that contributes a maximum growth in the GDP of our country.

This abrupt increase in cement prices has drastically affected the Infrastructure sector, over 35,000 to 40,000 construction projects in primary states have been affected and suffering from loss.

The Builders also plan to go for a strike, if this continues any further. They demanded the Government to act on this issue as soon as possible and fix the cement price according to its standards.
