FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] Embodiments of the invention relate to compositions for wire and cable (W&C) applications. In one aspect, the invention relates to thermoplastic compositions for use in W&C sheathings, e.g., protective jackets and insulation, which are flame retardant and halogen -free.Hide Dependent
1. A halogen-free flame-retardant polymer composition, comprising:
A. Propylene polymer
B. Thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) and
C. Intumescent flame retardant system comprising a piperazine component.
2. The composition of Claim 1 having a 5% secant modulus up to 35,000 psi.
3. The composition of Claim 1 in which the flame retardant system comprises an organic phosphoric acid salt type intumescent halogen-free flame retardant.
4. The composition of Claim 1 in which the piperazine component is selected from the group consisting of piperazine pyrophosphate, piperazine orthophosphate, piperazine
polyphosphate, a polytriazinyl compound comprising a piperazine group, and an oligomer or polymer 1,3,5-triazine derivative comprising a piperazine group.
5. The composition of Claim 1 in which the flame retardant system comprises FP2100J, Budit 3167, or a combination thereof.
